Me and Caily have been doing our Inquiry on women’s lives in the past and made a house based in the 1900s, we had a lot of trouble doing everything in the amount of time and materials we had but we kept going until the end of our women’s rights inquiry was over and It ended up something like this …

Summarising The book Holes chapter 8-15

Stanley has been at Camp Green Lake for about a week and he has found a golden piece of Metal But X-Ray takes it off or him and the next day he pretends to have found it in his next hole X-Ray shows Mr Pendanski and Mr Pendanski shows the warden the warden likes it and gives  Xray the day off but the other boys have to look for more of it in the place X-Ray pretends to find it. 

  1. Do​ ​you​ ​think​ ​Caveman​ ​is​ ​a​ ​good​ ​nickname​ ​for​ ​Stanley?​ ​Why?​ Because he’s big like a caveman ​Did​ ​he​ ​like​ ​it? He thought it was different
  2. Do​ ​you​ ​think​ ​it​ ​is​ ​wise​ ​for​ ​Stanley​ ​to​ ​lie​ ​to​ ​his​ ​mother​ ​about​ ​camp?​ ​No because his mother should know if he’s happy or not

  6. Why​ ​is​ ​Mr​ ​Pendanski​ ​asking​ ​the​ ​boys​ ​what​ ​they​ ​want​ ​to​ ​do​ ​with​ ​their​ ​life?​ ​They need to prepare for the day they
  7. leave here and join the rest of society.
  8. Mr​ ​Pendanski​ ​tells​ ​Stanley,​ ​“You​ ​messed​ ​up​ ​your​ ​life,​ ​and​ ​it’s​ ​up​ ​to​ ​you​ ​to​ ​fix it.”​ ​Do​ ​you​ ​agree​ ​with​ ​this? No because Stanley did nothing wrong

The Warden doesn’t like fossils, she’s tall woman with red hair, She wears a black cowboy hat and black and cowboy boots which were studded with turquoise stones, and her arms were covered with freckles, as was her face
  15. ​Do​ ​you​ ​think​ ​Zigzag​ ​and​ ​the​ ​other​ ​campers​ ​are​ ​correct​ ​in​ ​believing​ ​that​ ​the Warden​ ​is​ ​always​ ​watching​ ​them,​ ​or​ ​are​ ​they​ ​just​ ​being​ ​paranoid? They should think that because she knew all of their nicknames
  16. What do you think it’s like being sent to Camp Green Lake? Horrible. Do you think it will help the kids be better people in the future? Explain? Yes Because they will try not to do anything bad so they don’t get sent back

Summarising The book Holes chapter 1-7

Stanley Found a pair of old shoes falling from the sky. He was innocent of the crime for which he was convicted and he’d just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. He had gotten accused for stealing a pair of shoes from a famous baseball player,  Stanley got a choice to either go to jail ​or Camp Green lake, Stanley chose to go to Camp Green lake, all the people that went to Camp Green lake had done something bad or haven’t done something right Camp Green lake is is supposed to improve people like that so they are made to dig holes all day in the sun each hole  has to be one meter deep. At Camp Green lake Stanley meets some strange new friends, X-Ray, Armpit, Magnet, Zero & Zig-Zag

 

  1. Why​ ​does​ ​Stanley​ ​go​ ​to​ ​Camp​ ​Green​ ​Lake?  Stanley Got a choice to either go to jail ​or camp green lake
  2.  ​Have​ ​you​ ​ever​ ​been​ ​accused​ ​on something​ ​you​ ​didn’t​ ​do?​ ​Yes
  3. ​Do​ ​you​ ​think​ ​it’s​ ​true​ ​that​ ​digging​ ​holes​ ​can​ ​turn​ ​a​ ​bad​ ​person​ ​into​ ​a​ ​good​ ​one? Yes if you have to do something you don’t like you try not to do anything else bad so you don’t have to do it again.
  4.  What’s​ ​something unpleasant​ ​that​ ​you​ ​have​ ​done​ ​before? Cleaning up rotten food.
  5. The​ ​author​ ​says​ ​that​ ​a​ ​good​ ​inventor​ ​needs​ ​to​ ​have​ ​intelligence,​ ​perseverance and​ ​luck.​ ​Do​ ​you​ ​agree?​ ​Explain​ ​your​ ​answer You have to be able to know where to put stuff and get it in the right place
  6. Why​ ​does​ ​Stanley’s​ ​great-great​ ​Grandfather​ ​have​ ​a​ ​curse​ ​on​ ​him?​ Because He stole a pig. ​
  7. Why​ ​do​ ​you​ ​think​ ​the​ ​boys​ ​prefer​ ​to​ ​be​ ​called​ ​by​ ​their​ ​nicknames​ ​at​ ​Camp​ ​Green Lake? Because it suits them.
  8. Stanley​ ​feels​ ​like​ ​he​ ​is​ ​holding​ ​‘destiny’s​ ​shoes’.​ ​Do​ ​you​ ​believe​ ​there​ ​is​ ​such​ ​a thing​ ​as​ ​destiny? Yes​ ​Explain. Because Destiny is like your future.
  9. Based​ ​on​ ​what​ ​you​ ​have​ ​read​ ​so​ ​far,​ ​do​ ​you​ ​think​ ​Stanley​ ​has​ ​made​ ​the​ ​right choice​ ​in​ ​coming​ ​to​ ​Camp​ ​Green​ ​Lake?​ No ​Why? Because Camp green lake is like Jail but worse because they have to dig holes all day.
  10. Stanley​ ​feels​ ​proud​ ​of​ ​his​ ​first​ ​hole​ ​when​ ​it​ ​is​ ​finished.​ ​Why?​ Because he felt like now that he had finished his first hole it would get easier. 

The Juce Stand

You’ve been walking for days, your longing for any source of food or water. But not soon after you see a gigantic water hole reflecting off the golden desert sand with coconut trees hanging over the pool of fresh icy water, but something strange, something different catches your eye. The humongous red object was shining brighter than ever. curios but tired you start to walk over the the object as you get closer you can just make out the shape of an apple, but it couldn’t be it wasn’t possible, but there it was right in front of you!

Elsie Locke

Elsie Locke was born in 1912 and died in 2001, but she did lots of very important things for New Zealand / Aotearoa

 

 Elsie was an author of lots of books most of which were about New Zealand history, Elsie’s most successful book was the runaway settlers, Elsie also wrote the books Two people one land and student at the gates, but thats not all Elsie did, Elsie wanted to make New Zealand a better place.

In 1930 Elsie was the first student to go to Uni from Waiuku, In the mid-1940s Elsie spent two years in hospitable with spinal tuberculosis.

Elsie also helped found the New Zealand Campaign for nuclear disarmament.

Later Elsie wrote a book called, a history of peace activates in New Zealand. Elsie fought against power scheme to raise the water of lake Munapouri in the 1960s.
